The city experienced heavy bombing in the early 1990s, but is now making a full comeback as a tourist hot spot. The city walls are well worth exploring and offer superb views of the area. St. John’s Fort houses the Maritime Museum, and The Stradun – the city’s main street – is the vibrant heart of the Old Town, beautifully paved with limestone and lined with bars, shops and cafes. Visitors can climb up to the cable car station and take a ride up Srd Hill, to take in spectacular views of the city and sea.
Other museums to visit in Dubrovnik include the Ethnographic Museum, with its collections of textiles and folk costumes, and the Rector’s Palace Museum, featuring paintings and artifacts. “Game of Thrones” fans can enjoy a show-themed tour of filming locations in the city.
